I am going to tell you about this crazy beach called Hot Water Beach. So it all started off by getting to our camp sight on the east coast of the Coromandel Peninsula. The second we arrived the camp owner said “that the digging for the beach has started!”. We thought we could go any time to the beach so we arrived later to our camp sight. Then we saw our friends from Switzerland that we met in Russell and they were heading out to the beach too, so we decided to go with them. When we got down to the beach we saw all this steam coming from the sand then we started digging a big pool of water.

Digging into the sand to find hot water
Under the sand was hot hot water and that is why it is called Hot Water Beach. Then we started to dig a big pool of hot water but while we were digging we all stepped in scorching hot water and it almost burnt our feet! (The pool of hot water on the beach was not as good as grandma and grandpas hot tub).

Our natural hot tub at Hot Water Beach
Unfortunately the tide was coming in so we did not get that much time sitting in the relaxing hot water. The ocean was very wavy and had lots of rip currents so we did not go into the water.

The tide rolling in and washing out the hot water baths
This is the only beach in the world that has hot water under its sand which is very cool. The hot water under the sand is caused by volcanic activity. Then we had to go back to our camp sight before it got dark.
All 4 now – Kai

That is an amazing phenomenon Kai! One you will always remember.
Did you cook any lobster in the pools? Ha ha!
Our Hot Tub is closed now. Gramps managed to do it all by himself.
Bye 4 now

This is Fogo here. It really looks fun on that beach. Would I burn my paws if I dug in that sand?.I’m a little worried.
Do you see any dogs in NZ? It looks like a great place to run.
Bye 4 now, love Fogo

Stone will love this story. He loves anything to do with volcanoes. Great story.
Very cool indeed Kai, a hot tube you have to work for, every time you want one. Looked like fun, hope your feet survived!
