We’ve just had four days in Los Angeles and have had a great time exploring the city and doing some adventurous activities with Kai and Vea. Today we catch our flight to the Hawaiian Islands to re-unite with the Beth, Tony and Jaida. We’re meeting them in Maui and we’re staying in a small area named ‘Haiku’ which is on the north shore of the island. We’re all very excited to see the Rogers again – it’s been 8 months since they left Halifax and moved to Kona! In honour of our upcoming re-uniting in Haiku, Maui – we decided to do a little poetry assignment and each write a Haiku poem for the Rogers.

Haikus for Haiku

sunrise in the eastern winter skies
oceans and time-zones unite
sweet aloha sunset

excitement families reunite
ocean swells and warm breeze

Gone for three seasons
So exited to see you
aloha is soon here
– Kai

Gone for so long
Miss you so much
Together again
– Vea

Well done! I lived in Hawaii (Kona) twice for 3 month stints and on Kauai for 3 months. What a paradise! Have a great time. Here’s my Haiku:

    islands of beauty
    new adventures awaiting
    family bonding

Aloha Kathy. Your Haiku captured exactly our experience in Hawaii. Mahalo!

Can’t wait! Love Vea’s haiku. Enjoying the interaction with the haiku, so here’s my stab at one:

    Tropical breezes in our hair
    our toes in the sand
    and you all

Aloha Marcia. Great Haiku – and it was amazing having all of our toes in the sand together at Kua Bay. Good memories! Mahalo.

    Hello Folks,

So interesting to read about your adventures in the Galapagos Islands. Wow, those iguanas look huge, but they are friendly types? Thank you Vea, for the postcard of the Iguana Terrestre. He looks very large.

We are fine here, its been almost two weeks now since we got back from our Hawaii trip. It was SO nice there, we were only in Honolulu and quite busy with friends that were there, plus my sister & husband came on Feb 14 – 20th, so we did lots of stuff with them. They went over to Hilo and Kona for a week after we left and visited friends there. Hope to go to Hawaii again next winter, maybe for a couple weeks longer and spend some time on another island.

Mary Larry gave us heck when we got home, but she was well looked after by Bobby. It was quite cold when we were gone so she didn’t want to be outside for very long. She is sitting right here on my left arm as I try to type this. She is an “in your face” type of cat! The weather is getting better now, mostly on the + side and rainy, so the snow is disappearing.

Tonight we are going to the hockey game, Nelson Leafs (Junior B league), have won the first round of playoff games against the Spokane Braves. Now the next series they play Beaver Valley Nighthawks, which are in Fruitvale, small community west of Salmo on the way to Trail, about 40 minute drive. They beat the Castlegar Rebels in 4 straight, so we’ll be cheering on the Leafs and hope they can win a game or two.

All for now, your posts are very interesting, what an adventure you are having. Enjoy Hawaii!!

Aloha Linda & Reid & Mary Larry! Thanks for the comments. Good to hear that you had a great time in Oahu! You should definitely see some of the other islands when you go back next winter. You would love Kauai – and the Big Island has some incredible history and culture. Cheers!
