I wanted to tell you a bit about the coffee tour we had yesterday………………..so it all started out with us going over to kens house (ken is the owner of the house we are staying in) for a cup of coffee. After that we took the car to the farm, it was about two minutes up the road. When we got there we saw all of the beans drying out in the sun, so I tried one and they were very hard but I chewed it and it had a bit of coffee taste to it but overall it had no taste to it.

Coffee beans drying in the sun in Monteverde

Then we went into the woods where the beans were on the bushes, they were not like I thought they would look like, they had a red shell around them and the breams were inside, you could just pop them out of the shell and eat the bean,so I did and they had a goowe out side that was sweet but the inside was bitter. The sad part of it was that there was a disease for the coffee leaves called coffee rust, it killed the plant. On our way back to the house kens in laws invited us into there house for more coffee, lemon aid and crackers. It was really cool to see how a normal Costa Rican family lives, they cooked there meets on a wood stove and every thing was very simple. We got back to the house and went to bed we had a long day ahed of us.

That’s all 4 now.

I don’t like coffee, and I don’t think I would ever try to eat a coffee bean. Way to go Kai! Sounds like you had a super time with your grandmother. How was the zip line? I can’t wait to try this when we are in Hawaii. Keep the Klog coming, we love hearing all about your travels.
