We left Revelstoke in the morning on our way to Nelson. The drive was beautiful and consisted of a ferry crossing, a mountain pass and a few snow squals. Luckily no avalanche blockades today – but lots of signs to let us know that we were in avalanche country! It was recommended to stop at one of the hot springs along the way. We found Ainsworth Hotsprings and enjoyed the 106 degree waters of the natural mineral caves as well as the 4 degree cold water plunge that we did several times!!! (Reminded us of the temperature of Dad’s annual Easter swim)
Some wonderful friend’s of ours, Shay and Keith helped arrange for us to stay at their Mother’s house in Nelson. Bobby (Keith’s mother) was travelling to Ottawa on the day we arrived – but she still offered up her lovely home to us. We didn’t get to meet her, but got a sense of what a wonderful community it was by meeting her neighbours Reid and Linda. We spent a couple nights with wine, stories, music and jokes. Kai and Vea grew very fond of their company and their cat, Mary Larry.
We headed to a couple of the mountains that we heard a lot about. One was RED mountain and the other was Whitewater. It is very interesting that every snowboard mountain so far has had a different character, feel and experience! Whitewater was the mountain that felt most similar to Martock back in NS – with a local and genuine vibe. RED was a bust with no new snow in 30 days. It’s quite amazing to see the difference of snow in the mountains that are only half an hour away from each other.
Heading to Fernie next and deciding on the ferry route or the mountain pass route! The ferry is the longest free ferry (part of the highway system) in the world and the mountain pass is the highest highway-served pass in North America. It all depends on the weather!
Here’s some photos from our days in Nelson.
All 4 now!!!

Sounds like fun!! Take care!!
Hi, I like the photo of you all sitting on the floor playing with the cards. Great family time together. The “hot springs” sounds wonderful. I would like to soak in a hot spring right now!! Take care.
Hi Angela! I have been thinking a lot of those little moments and how wonderful they are! Life is too busy sometimes! Give Three Brooks a big hug for me!
Thank you Kari for the very kind words, we were so delighted to meet you all and hear about your adventure. Having traveled a lot before our kids were born, we are always interested to hear about other peoples’ travels.
And your children are so lovable, well behaved, humorous and fun! It didn’t take long to feel like we had known you all for years! Wish we could have shown you more of what Nelson has to offer, but really hope you can return some day soon – before Kai & Vea grow up! Of course, Mary Larry would love to have Vea pack her around like she did, she loves attention and lets you know when attention is due! Look forward to reading more blog entries! So nice to meet you and wish you all safe travels and loads of fun……..Linda
