Today was a day of mixed emotions and many tears. We’re excited for the adventure ahead of us – and at the same time sad to be leaving our family, friends and wonderful community. We hope this blog will keep us connected with everyone at home while also being a journal for our  travels and a resource for other families who are thinking of doing their own RTW trip.

Our flights from Halifax to Kelowna were long but thankfully all or our luggage arrived safely – 4 backpacks and 2 snowboard bags! We were all pretty tired when we checked in to the airport hotel at 12:30 am mountain time (4:30 am Atlantic!!).

The next day we recharged and stocked up on supplies for our month long snowboard adventure in B.C. and Alberta. Got some great tips on secret snowboarding spots from the guy who rented us our car, and he even threw in a free GPS for us. He must have sensed that Norrie has a very poor sense of direction!

We had heard that Costco was the place to find discounted lift tickets, and we were happy to find lots of amazing deals on passes, as well as lots of free samples to feed the kids lunch. Our budget conscious travel habits are kicking into high gear already.
